Guidelines for essay writing style and format are governed by your School, and can usually be found in your course outline. You should check with your lecturer, tutor, or research supervisor for further information or ask at your School office.

Note that it may not comply strictly with your School's requirements and may need to be modified.

  1. Open Microsoft Word, go to File and then New
  2. On the templates page, click in the search box at the top of the window, type APA and search.
  3. Choose the Student APA Style Paper 7th edition (uses Times New Roman font) or Professional APA Style Paper 7th edition (uses Calibri font) template.
  4. You may wish to start your assignment by removing all the pre-formatted sample text, and just start typing with the preset Styles (headings etc). As you type, the paragraph indents, line spacing and page numbers will automatically apply.
