Turnitin is a text matching tool that checks the similarity between your work and other people's work. While a higher score could indicate plagiarism, poor paraphrasing or use of generative artificial intelligence (Gen-AI), assessments that include long direct quotes and lengthy reference lists can also return high similarity scores. Your lecturer will be able to make this distinction when interpreting the Turnitin report.
