Developed by OpenAI, ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot that uses natural language processing powered by large language models to generate text (outputs) in response to questions (prompts) that you pose to the tool.
ChatGPT can be used to organise or summarise text or write new text.
Outputs are generated using three sources of information:
1. Information publicly available on the web
2. Information licenced by third parties
3. Information provided by users
Therefore responses should not be relied upon without verification as they can be outdated, contain bias and be factually incorrect. Always ensure you have fact checked any outputs obtained through generative artificial intelligence (Gen-AI) and only use Gen-AI technologies when completing assessment tasks if they are explicitly allowed, making sure you properly acknowledge usage through a statement of acknowledgement and in-text referencing as required by your school's preferred style guide.
