Turnitin is now able to detect the use of AI writing in submissions, although students will not see the results in the similarity report.

Turnitin does not check for plagiarism but can help to detect the use of AI writing in submissions, by flagging instances where a student's work is similar or matching sources in their substantial databases of past student submissions, webpages, archived internet content, journal articles and publications.

Turnitin also looks for language patterns that indicate the likely use of AI generated writing submissions. If you have used generative text to help craft your assignment, Turnitin will highlight the text likely generated by AI.  Your Turnitin score will likely be high and be flagged for investigation.

The AI generation score can only be seen by your instructor/s. Only academic staff can see the AI report.

If you need help with academic writing, an academic learning advisor is available to meet online or face-to-face. Students also have access to Studiosity through Blackboard.
