Unless the use of generative artificial intelligence (Gen-AI) has been explicitly allowed/required in your assessment task, using Gen-AI to complete your assignment is a form of cheating and a breach of academic integrity.

Your assignments need to be your own work. You should not submit work that has been produced or modified using Gen-AI tools including, but not limited to Large Language Model ChatBots & content generators like ChatGPT, and other forms of Gen-AI like reference generators, writing assistance tools, translation and paraphrasing tools. If you are unsure whether your assessment allows for use of Gen-AI you should check with your Course Coordinator.

This doesn't mean that Gen-AI is not a useful learning tool. Acceptable uses of Gen-AI might be asking questions as a starting point for how to approach a task. However, the information that Gen-AI provides is not always reliable, so it is important to do your own research and to write up your assignment in your own words. This ensures that you are learning the writing skills you need for your program and future career. Writing also helps deepen your thinking about a topic.

The best tool for your research is the University Library’s FiNDit service – this will enable you to locate and evaluate academic resources that you can paraphrase, quote from and cite in your assessments to support your writing.

You can also use the Library's Subject Guides to find major databases and key resources related to your topic.

If you need help you can use the Library chat service or book an appointment with a librarian to discuss research strategies and resources.
