I would like to label my paragraphs in one section so I can refer the reader to a paragraph later on. Is there a most acceptable format for this? Roman numerals, letters, capitalisation, brackets, periods, italics, bold?
APA generally signposts sections in your text with text headings. APA has quite a prescriptive format for the different heading levels.
