Primary sources contain first hand information and are original records or documents created by someone who lived at the time of the event. Examples include diaries, letters, memoirs, speeches, photographs, audio recordings, films, artefacts and newspaper articles.
Secondary sources are a step removed from the original source or review. They usually interpret and discuss primary sources. Examples include textbooks, dictionaries and encyclopedias, journal articles, documentaries, newspaper commentary and opinion pieces.
