The University does not provide Grammarly to students, however, we do provide support to students in academic writing and grammar. Please refer to the end of this response for support services.

Students should be aware of the following:

The University’s Policy: Academic Integrity states that students require express written permission to use software such as Grammarly in their assessments. Students should check regarding the use of Grammarly and the associated requirements and limitations for each course and its associated assessments.

Students should also be aware that Grammarly, both the Free and Premium versions include generative artificial intelligence via the pop up assistive / GrammarlyGo functions. These functions, if used, will be detected as artificial intelligence, and should not be used without express permission.

All student computers on campus have Microsoft Office 365 installed, which includes spell check and grammar check tools. Students should also be aware that Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Graph include Copilot which is a generative AI bot.

The University provides the following point-of-need and support services for current students:

  1. The Academic Writing: Grammar, Punctuation & Language module can guide you through the proper grammar and punctuation rules.
  1. Academic Support: A Learning Advisor from Student Success can be booked for either face-to-face or online meetings, using the Appointment booking system linked below. Learning Advisors can help with study planning, time management, academic writing, essay structure and more.
  2. Studiosity: An online study support service that provides students with 24/7 access to expert support and feedback.  Studiosity is the University’s preferred method for students receiving additional editorial feedback on their writing. Students have free access to Studiosity in all courses through Blackboard.
