Correcting journal titles ‘stuck’ in capital letters in EndNote

When importing references from databases to EndNote, the citation will sometimes show with the journal title in full capitals. Often these capitals “stick”, and even if the title is edited to change case, it will continue to present in both the EndNote preview pane and your document with capital letters.

To change this permanently in EndNote X9:

  1. Go to Tools > Open Term Lists > Journal Terms List
  2. Select the journal title that needs to be changed and click the Edit Term button on the right.
  3. Retype the journal title with the correct capitalisation and click OK. Close the window.

To change this permanently in EndNote 20:

  1. Go to Library > Open Term Lists > Journal Terms List
  2. Select the journal title that needs to be changed and click the Edit Term button on the right.
  3. Retype the journal title with the correct capitalisation and click OK. Close the window.
