Whether you should use a biography as a source is something you should raise with your lecturer, as it may depend on the nature and requirements of your assignment topic and the expectations of your lecturer.

Lecturers usually expect students to refer to scholarly publications which are written by experts and have undergone a review process. However, there are certain occasions when a biography would be appropriate when combined with other sources such as an essay on leadership or management and a biography of a successful business person or sporting coach.

If you do wish to reference a biography you should refer to the Library's Referencing Guide and select the referencing style (e.g. APA or Chicago Footnotes) and then the 'Books' tab.
