How you reference the Catechism depends on the style you are to use (please consult your lecturer).

Chicago Footnotes

As a major reference work, the Catechism is not usually referenced in a bibliography. Footnotes (first and subsequent) are sufficient.

First footnote:

2. Catechism of the Catholic Church [hereafter CCC], 2nd ed. (Strathfield, NSW: St Pauls, 2000), n. 2184.

Subsequent footnote:

7. CCC, n. 2185.

APA requires in-text and end-text citations for the Catechism. It is classed as a "work with no author", so those rules apply.

In-text example:

...of the disadvantaged (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1994, para. 1932)...

Reference list:

Catechism of the Catholic Church. (1994). Retrieved from

Catechism of the Catholic Church (2nd ed.). (2000). Strathfield, NSW: St Pauls.

Please see the University's Referencing Guide for more information.

  2. The links in the instructions have now been updated, as well as the instructional information. I hope this is more helpful.
