What referencing guide should I be using?
There are three authorised referencing styles used by the University of Notre Dame Australia:
- American Psychological Association (APA) - this is the University standard's Author-Date referencing style, and is used by all Schools that do not have special requirements met by the other styles
- Chicago Manual of Style - Notes & Bibliography (Chicago Footnotes) - this is the standard footnote referencing style, and is used by the School of Philosophy & Theology and some Arts disciplines
- Australian Guide to Legal Citation, 3rd edition (AGLC3) - this is used by the School of Law.
Thus, the style you use will depend on your degree/major, with APA being the standard.
The University Library's Referencing Guide covers all three styles, with explanations and examples of how to cite various types of sources. Please refer to the Guide, available from our website, and linked below.
