Q

How can I export a (standalone) reference list from EndNote to a Word document?

I want to share my bibliography with my lecturer. Can I create a correctly formatted list of references (separate to my essay) using EndNote?

Answer

Creating a standalone reference list / bibliography

You can drag references from an EndNote Library window directly into your paper. Have EndNote and a Word document open – preferably so that you can see both on your screen at the same time.

To drag your bibliography:

  1. Select the desired references in your EndNote Library - use Ctrl+click (Windows) or Command+click (Mac) to choose those that you wish to include.
  2. Make sure the referencing style in the Bibliographic Output Style window in your EndNote Library is the one you wish to use to format your reference list.
  3. Hold down the Ctrl or Cmd key as you drag the references from the library and drop them directly onto the Word document.
