Q

I am using EndNote for Electronic Books and Electronic Articles and it doubles the URL in the reference list. How do I fix it?

EndNote is repeating the Retrieved from statement and I can't get rid of it.

Answer

To adjust a repeated URL element, you will need to edit the style you are using and change a setting.

  1. In EndNote go to Edit > Output Styles > Open Style Manager > locate the style you are using > click Edit > go to Field Substitutions (under Bibliography).
  2. Here you will need to uncheck the setting If the DOI field is empty, use > go to File > Save As > choose a name for your saved Style (EndNote X2 and higher will not allow you to change the existing style in EndNote but will always apply the change to a copy of the style).
  3. Click Save to save the changes to a copy of the style, and close the Style window.

You would then need to use the new style in your document.

Please see the following website for how to change the style in your document. http://endnote.com/kb/80893

Note that if you have a DOI in the DOI field, then EndNote will not repeat the URL information twice so no adjustment to the style is necessary.
